Magicats – A Spellcasting Survivor-like (Prototype)

You are a magical cat. The hordes are many. The spells? Auto-cast. The chaos? ...Getting there!

Magicats is a fast-paced survivor-like / rouguelike prototype where you play as a lone feline mage, dodging waves of enemies while your spells trigger automatically. No aiming. No combos. Just WASD movement, positioning, and the joy of watching your little cat grow stronger with each level.

The Pitch

What if a cat accidentally learned magic — and now has to survive 10 minutes of increasingly angry monsters?

Level up. Pick an upgrade. Your spells get stronger (up to 5 levels each). Survive. Repeat. It's a small loop, but a surprisingly satisfying one.

Current Prototype Features

    ✔ 4 unique spells – Each can be leveled up to 5 times.
    ✔ 10 enemy types – From speedy chasers to tanky brutes.
    ✔ 10-minute survival runs – Short, snappy, replayable.
    ✔ Auto-combat – Spells trigger on cooldowns. You just move.
    ✔ Procedurally generated terrain – No two maps look the same.

The core loop works, it's playable start to finish, and it's genuinely fun. But it's a prototype, a uni project, not a full-content release.

Who made this?

Magicats was built in 2 weeks by a duo team of programmers (not game-dev students — just two comp-sci students who love cats and needed to pass the subject T_T).

We set out to prove we could:

• Build a working survivor-like from scratch
• Keep the gameplay tight and readable
• Make a magic cat feel powerful

We succeeded. Now we're sharing the result.

Is this a "complete" game?

Not yet — but it's a fully playable prototype with:

• A beginning, middle, and end (die or survive 10 minutes)
• Real progression within a run
• Enough chaos to make you smile

If you enjoy watching tiny cats obliterate fantasy creatures with fireballs, you'll have a good time.
